FAQ – Data Sources and Methodology

HeliosROI uses official, transparent, and publicly available datasets to model household electricity consumption across countries. The following sources are integrated into our analysis platform.

🇮🇹 Italy

Source: ARERA – Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente
Dataset: “Prelievo medio orario regionale per clienti domestici – Anno 2023”
Files used: dati prelievo orario per regionale0_a_1_5 anno 2023.xlsx, dati prelievo orario per regionale potenza6 anno 2023.xlsx
Description: Average hourly electricity withdrawal per household, disaggregated by region, residence type, and contracted power. Data processed from ARERA’s open data archive to produce a normalized 8,760-hour household consumption profile for Italy.

🇩🇪 Germany

Source: BDEW – Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft e.V.
Dataset: “Standardlastprofil H0” (household standard load profile)
Description: Official normalized hourly household consumption curve used by German grid operators. Represents a typical residential load pattern over a year.

🇫🇷 France

Source: Enedis – Données ouvertes sur les coefficients des profils résidentiels
Dataset: coefficients-des-profils (Residential profile coefficients, 2024)
Description: Official half-hourly coefficients representing average residential consumption by region and time of day, aggregated and normalized for the French household load profile.

🇪🇸 Spain

Source: Red Eléctrica de España (REE)
Dataset: “Perfiles de consumo residenciales”
Description: Hourly residential consumption data from the Spanish grid operator, used to model household demand and seasonal patterns.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Source: Elexon
Dataset: “Profile Class 1 – Domestic Unrestricted” (Default Period Profile Coefficients)
Description: Official UK household electricity load profile used for metering and market settlement.

🇺🇸 United States

Source: NREL – National Renewable Energy Laboratory
Dataset: “End Use Load Profiles for the U.S. Building Stock” (ResStock, 2024 release)
Description: Hourly residential electricity consumption profiles for all U.S. states, accessed through the Open Energy Data Initiative (OEDI) public S3 repository and normalized per household.

🌍 Other and European Aggregates

Source: ENTSO-E – European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity
Dataset: “Actual Total Load (6.1.A)”
Description: Hourly total electricity demand per bidding zone. Used to calibrate national household consumption patterns and cross-validate local data.

Data Usage

All datasets are converted to hourly resolution (8,760 values per year) and normalized to sum to 1. These normalized profiles are used to simulate solar ROI calculations under realistic residential consumption conditions per country.
